2017 Foundations of Successful Communication Skills
Parents & Caregivers
S$78 per participant (inclusive of GST, handout materials and refreshments)
This training workshop is intended for those interested in optimising the communication skills programme for their child/student with autism.
Individuals with an Autism Spectrum Disorder or autism have to work hard to continuously engage in different forms of communication. Each individual with autism is different; and as such will require different levels of support. Understanding ‘What to teach’ and ‘How to teach’ communication to these individuals can seem like an overwhelming task.
This training workshop aims to empower participants with the knowledge and skills to support the development of communication skills in their child/student with autism. Participants will also learn about the key elements that form the foundation of an autism-friendly communication intervention programme.
Based on our extensive experiences in working with individuals with autism, our expert consultant will share ‘real-life’ case examples to highlight the key elements and strategies of an effective and successful communication programme.
A variety of learning activities will encourage the participants’ self-reflection on how the information and key strategies presented can be applied to their own child/student in different environments, including in school and at home.
Upon completion of the training workshop, participants will be able to:
- better understand their role in developing communication skills programme for their child/student with autism
learn practical teaching strategies to make teaching communication more meaningful for their child/student with autism
learn when and how to apply teaching strategies for an effective and successful communication programme for their child/student with autism
While not a pre-requisite, it would be useful for participants to have attended the ‘Fundamentals of Autism’ workshop
