The workshop will begin with by addressing and revisiting parents’ thoughts and feelings when they first learnt about their child having ASD and doing some reflection on their parenting journey.

It will facilitate parents to have a better appreciation of their child’s developmental issues, child’s strengths, challenges and interests in relation with the ASD diagnosis.

It will discuss practical ways to discuss about the diagnosis with their child and family members, and learn how to support their child in coming to terms with the diagnosis. It will discuss some factors to consider when doing disclosure, such as the age and gender of the child, dealing with family members’ responses, classmates’ and teachers’ responses, and access arrangements.

Finally, it will discuss some of the areas to look into in building child’s confidence and resilience.
