Programme Description

Individuals with autism may have difficulty processing everyday sensory information. At one end of the sensory spectrum, they may have difficulty registering the information or they may experience a sensory overload. Too much information can cause stress, anxiety, and possibly physical pain. This can result in withdrawal, challenging behaviour or meltdowns. These sensory differences can be a barrier to learning and can affect a person’s quality of life.

The aim of this workshop is to provide participants with an understanding of the different sensory issues and difficulties faced by individuals with autism. Parents/caregivers will be guided on how to establish their child’s sensory profile and learn ways to accommodate and support their child’s sensory needs.

Important: This workshop is not meant to replace the need for proper assessment and intervention programming for sensory issues.

Learning Goals:

This training programme is designed to empower participants with the knowledge and skills so that they can:

  • have an understanding of the 7 sensory processes in individuals
  • identify sensory difficulties in individuals with autism
  • be aware of the impact of these difficulties on daily activities
  • provide support for their child with autism through accommodation strategies
  • have an understanding and support self-regulation of the children
