No two individuals with autism are alike. Each individual with autism is unique and has his/her own learning style and preferences.
Individuals with autism who are young in age or who are older and have lower intellectual ability are usually concrete learners. They learn best when provided with visually supported instructional methods, where tasks are broken down and sequenced into smaller steps.
This workshop aims to provide the knowledge and skills for building the foundation of a powerful and effective teaching strategy to help children with autism, who are concrete learners, to learn and eventually master any given task.
Upon completion of the training workshop, participants will be able to:
- learn and practice basic steps in breaking down and sequencing tasks
- use backward chaining as a teaching technique for life-skills tasks
- link prompting and fading skills when teaching tasks
Parents and caregivers of young children (pre-school) or older children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder who are concrete learners in Special Education Schools)
